Success In Times Of The Pandemic: From US to Canada.

Business Immigration: From the United States to Canada

The year 2020 has been the most challenging year for the global economy due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While the world is experiencing economic downturns, Canada’s immigration programs remain intact and stronger than ever. Immigration is Canada’s source of energy towards economic growth to recover from COVID-19 repercussions.

Likewise, Sobirovs Law Firm remains committed to supporting the country by helping eligible investors and business owners go through business immigration programs as well as helping them achieve their personal dreams and goals in Canada.

Dark times like this may discourage us to push aside our plans, but not when we are driven by solid determination and effort.

Here’s a great story of perseverance from one of our recent clients. Her work permit application process commenced in the midst of the pandemic, but it did not hinder her to get positive results with our expert help and guidance. There may be expected delays and challenges along the way, but with appropriate planning, the right strategy, hard work, and expertise, everything is possible regardless of the circumstances.

Our Client’s Business Immigration Story

The Basic Facts:applicant work permit approval document

  • The client, a Canadian company hire us to submit an LMIA application on March 13, 2020;
  • In July 2020, the employer had an interview with Service Canada as part of the LMIA decision-making process;
  • On July 16, 2020, we submitted additional submission letter and documents as requested by Service Canada after the interview;
  • On July 24, 2020, we received a positive LMIA for the client;
  • On October 02, 2020, we helped to submit a work permit application to bring an Accountant Manager from the US to Canada;
  • We handled all applications for the work permit applicant’s family: an open work permit for the spouse and study permit applications for the children;
  • On November 19, 2020, all applications were approved.

The Challenge:

  • Like many other businesses, our law firm was also affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and we had to deal with slow processing, lockdowns and uncertainties during the pandemic;
  • On the day-to-day work on the client’s file, we have done our best to move the client’s file steadily forward, focusing on how to overcome the challenge and managing the client’s expectations. At times, we’ve failed to make a progress;
  • Border closure between Canada and the US was not helpful either and we could not do anything about it. We’ve worked only on those things over which we had some control.

The Lessons:

  • The world will NEVER be the same again. So, everyone should readjust their expectations and plans.
  • Be realistic and focus on your ultimate goal. If you have made up your mind that you will move to Canada in 2021, then get on working on that goal! Don’t wait and see! It’s a new world full of new challenges.
  • Although the world has stopped during the pandemic, the client’s business should not stop. It has to move one as much as possible.
  • As legal professionals, we should evolve, too. Improving ourselves with each new client matter will make us better advisors for our future clients.

If you’re up for a challenge, then the Sobirovs team is ready to help!
